Dr. Howard J. Fullman, MD, FACP, FACG, AGAF, is the Area Medical Director of Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles. In this capacity he is responsible for medical center operations for 190,000 Kaiser Permanente members, 400 physicians, 4000 employees, Kaiser Foundation Hospital West Los Angeles and 5 office buildings. During his tenure as Medical Director the West Los Angeles medical center has become recognized for many accomplishments in quality and service for its patients including top awards from the California State Office of the Patient Advocate and the NCQA – National Committee for Quality Assurance.
Dr. Fullman is a Board-certified Gastroenterologist and Internist. He received his B.S. at Northwestern University and MD with distinction at Northwestern University Medical School. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of California, San Francisco and was selected as Chief Medical Resident at UCSF as well. His Gastroenterology fellowship was completed at UCLA. Dr. Fullman is a member of the AOA Honor Medical Society and is an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCLA.
Dr. Fullman is a Partner in the Southern California Permanente Medical Group and has served on the SCPMG Board of Directors since 1990. He has been the Chair of the Quality Committee of the SCPMG Board. He served as Chief of Gastroenterology and President of the Hospital Executive Committee of Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles.
Dr. Fullman is a fellow in the American College of Physicians, the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterology Association. He has authored many publications in the field of Gastroenterology and has made many presentations and lectures in the fields of Gastroenterology, Health Care Economics, Health Care Management and Leadership.
Dr. Fullman is a Director for many organizations including the American Liver Foundation, the T.H.E. Clinic and the USC Hillel Board.
Dr. Fullman is married to Sandra Kossacoff, a real estate attorney. They have two sons: Alex attending USC and Casey in High School. Dr. Fullman and his family have a passion for travel. They have traveled to every continent and have a particular passion for traveling to remote, exotic areas of the world.
